How much does a mobile blood test cost in Australia?
Short answer: With Express Pathology, a registered nurse home visit costs $129 in metro areas and $149 in regional areas when you have a request form from your doctor. Private blood tests that need no referral start at $99, collected free at a partner centre or at home for an extra $75.
What you pay for
A mobile blood test has two parts: the home visit, and the tests themselves.
- Home visit with your doctor's request form: $129 metro, $149 regional. You pay the visit fee upfront when you book. How the tests on your form are billed is set by the laboratory.
- Private blood test, no referral: panels from $99. Add a nurse home visit for $75, or visit one of 2,000+ partner collection centres at no extra cost.
- Build your own test: a $45 base fee plus each test you choose, with single tests from $35. For example, a PSA test is $80 and a vitamin D test is $110.

What affects the price
- Where you live: regional home visits cost more than metro visits because of travel.
- Which tests you need: a single test costs less than a full panel.
- Referral or private: tests on a doctor's request form may be eligible for Medicare through the laboratory. Private tests ordered without a referral are not covered by Medicare.

Common questions
Is a home blood test more expensive than going to a collection centre?
Yes, you pay for the nurse's visit. With Express Pathology, a home visit is $129 metro or $149 regional with your doctor's form, or $75 added to a private test. Visiting a partner collection centre with a private test costs nothing extra.
Does Medicare cover the home visit fee?
No. The home visit fee is a private service fee and is not claimed through Medicare.
Do I need a referral?
Not for private tests. You can order a panel or build your own test online without seeing a GP. If you already have a request form from your doctor, book a home visit and the nurse collects the tests on your form.
Can I cancel?
You can reschedule or cancel free of charge up to 24 hours before your appointment. Changes within 24 hours, or a missed visit, may incur the home visit fee.
