Hep C antibody

This test detects antibodies to the Hepatitis C virus (HCV) in your blood. Antibodies are produced by your immune system if you've been exposed to Hepatitis C, either currently or in the past. A positive result indicates exposure to the virus, but additional testing is needed to determine if you have an active infection.

The test requires a simple blood sample collected at a pathology centre or via mobile collection service. The sample is sent to an accredited Australian laboratory for analysis using highly accurate antibody detection methods.

Many people with Hep C have no symptoms.

The good news is that Hepatitis C is now curable with modern antiviral medications - treatment is highly effective, well-tolerated, and usually takes 8-12 weeks.
