What is the difference between thyroid function and thyroid antibodies?
Thyroid function tests (TSH, T4 and T3) show how much thyroid hormone you are making. Thyroid antibody tests look for an autoimmune cause behind a thyroid change. Our Extensive Thyroid Panel includes both.
Do I need to fast?
Fasting is not usually needed for thyroid tests. If your doctor has given you instructions, follow those.
Do I need a referral?
No. We issue the pathology request form with your order.
Is this covered by Medicare?
No. Tests ordered without a GP referral are private, so Medicare rebates do not apply.
